OVERVIEW: Welcome back to school! I hope this blog post finds you and your family well. I miss seeing you, and I hope to make our time together as meaningful and stress free as possible.
In this space, I want to prepare you for our first day back. You should have received a letter from the district about our return to learning. Below, you will see a grid with the weekly schedule. We will meet twice a week for class. I plan to use Google Meet and our class blog. I will also be available during H-block and Wednesdays on Google Meet for office hours.
Below, I provided a list of "options" for your continued learning. Our first class will involve checking-in and making decisions about how to proceed. I want you to be part of this process.
If you are friendly with anyone in the class, please let them know that there is an expectation that they will be engaging in work, again.
HOMEWORK DUE MONDAY: When you finish reading this post, please post a quick comment below to let me know: 1) You are alive and well, 2) Will I see you in our first Google Meet, and 3) What would you be interested in doing with our time (again, see list below). Note: All class sessions will be recorded and posted on my blog, so you can still enjoy class even if you do not make it for the live session.
See you on Google Meet!
AHS School Schedule
Curriculum Possibilities
2. Bronte Sisters: As we were almost finished reading the Bronte Sisters novels, I think that would be the best place to resume classes. Please finish reading your Bronte novel and compose your response in the appropriate blog space for a date TBD. I have provided quick links, below:
Blog post for Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Blog post for Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Blog post for The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
3. British Literature Book Club: For our next unit, we could select a British work and read it as a class. We could also watch British films based on novels (on Netflix) and I can teach during our sessions.
4. Mr. Pellerin Daily Lessons: I could always just share poems, favorite pieces of literature, review past material, walk through my Teaching Global Classroom Blog, and we can have a discussion on Google Meet during our class time. The assignments can come organically from these sessions.
5. College Prep: Is there anything you would like me to help you with on your way to college? More grammar work? Writing instruction? Writing literary research papers? Life lessons? Use me as a resource.
6. Creative Writing: Poetry, short fiction, novels, personal essay writing? I can help guide you. FYI: Watch the video of Poetry Night at Cafe Azteca!
7. Any other suggestions? I am open.
Gatsby says, "Welcome Back, Daisy!"

Hi Mr. Pellerin! I hope you are well.
ReplyDeleteI apologize that you have not been hearing much from me lately, but I will let you know that I am in fact alive and well :)
I will also be sure to be in our Google Meet tomorrow.
As for suggestions, I think we should keep our current class structure or at least something quite close to it. (i.e. Poem of the day, then either: 1. our Bronte sister novel or 2. another British work, like #3 suggests).
I would also be interested in finding a way to play a movie over the Google Meet and we can watch the movie with a few breaks so we can comment on it (like we usually do in class). (If needed, I will be willing to help with the presentation of the movie through Google Meets)
Thank you for the checkins throughout this unusual time and see you tomorrow,
Matt Gaetano
Hello Matt! Nice to hear from you. I love these ideas. During tomorrow's session we'll make some decisions together. See you then!
DeleteHey Mr. Pellerin!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping things are going well with your family throughout all of this. Sorry I've been a bit quiet, but I've been very busy. I picked up a job at Walmart over the course of the past two weeks to try and help them out, and I got informed by the Army that I need to take my medical exam over the course of the next 2-3 weeks as I got awarded an ROTC 4 year Scholarship (YAY!!!). I had meant to respond last night, but I was working on my class essayist attempt.
Either way, I am indeed alive, a bit tired, but I'm doing well. I'm working shifts in the morning on weekends, and at night on weekdays. It's not the worst thing, but the panic at the stores I can personally testify to now. It's not a joke!
Given the circumstances, honestly I feel anything would work. They're all great ways in at least my mind to remove stress, both before and after work. If I had to pick a favorite it'd be the creative writing option, just because I'd like to come up with some fun ideas and play them out in reality.
Anyways, I wanted to let you know I've missed you and Brit Lit too, always was my favorite class to end the day off with. I hope you and your family are doing well at this time, and if I have to give you one recommendation, DON'T GO TO THE STORES DURING THE WEEKEND (HAHA). I'm saying this because it got REALLY busy for us this weekend and we've struggled to be able to maintain social distancing protocols.
I'll definitely be there for the Google Meet today, although I'll probably be coming in through my desktop, so I wouldn't expect any face cam or anything of the sorts. Anyways, hope you're doing well, and I hope to see you and everyone else soon.

Stay safe, my friend! That is not an easy job to have right, now. Congrats on the scholarship! You deserve it! See you soon.
DeleteGood Morning Mr. Pellerin!
ReplyDeleteI am doing well and I hope you are as well. I will be joining the google meet at 11:30. I'm open to doing anything in terms of the curriculum. I always love book club and creative writing. As well as your poems of the day and films and books that you introduce to us. Ready to get back to school and back to normal.
Thank You!
Hi Maggie! Thanks for the input. We'll pick a title, today, hopefully. See you soon!
